Lot 4 - Motorclassica 2015 - Sale as0206
Lot 4
A 1937 MG TA Chassis: TA 1053
The TA was the first of the T series cars and was introduced in June 1936; this car is one of only 100 imported new into Australia. Restored by the present owner to a very high standard retaining its original MPJG 1292cc motor (number 1263), clutch, gearbox and side laced wire wheels. The chassis has been reinforced to TC standard, a rebuilt steel body was hand rolled to the new timber frame (original body number 5120, type B269).
Completely re-trimmed, correct carpets and wet weather gear fitted . The period leather, vinyl material and piping used on the car were found stored in Canada by Abingdon Trimming, who carried out the re-trim.
This excellent motor car has featured in many displays, including the RACV Heritage Car Series, and is a former entrant in the 2011 Motorclassica. As the car is part of the owner's collection, it has covered only 110 miles since restoration. An opportunity to acquire a wonderfully pretty and original pre-war car at a very reasonable cost. As the MG Car Company advertising said at the time, "A car with a racing pedigree, built to the last bolt as a pukka sports car."
Estimate $ 30,000-40,000
